Birthday Blowout

I must thank a few people for the events of this past week. Thanks to Liz, Jay, Jenn, Karim and Lionel for suprising me in New York City with dinner and dancing.

Another set of kudos goes out to Carla, Jon , Rannie, TBIT, wNoodle, Emma, Geekent, Freckle Stof and Gary for more dinner and dancing in Toronto. An extra Huzzah to Carla and Jon for letting me crash at their place afterwards.

Of course you bettah recognize my cousins for taking my brother out to Hooters for his birthday! Eveyone loves the baby of the family! Awwww.

Special mentions to everyone who's sent me an instant message, e-mail or comment birthday wishes as well.

I couldn't have asked for a better week of birthday events.

Go shorty

My birthday is coming up. March 1st, for those not in the know. I only mention this because some of my dearest and closest friends tend to forget ... not to point any fingers or anything.

Right Kristine? Hmm?

If I were a character in a sitcom,

When I am at a restaurant I cannot order the same thing that someone else at my table has ordered. I just can't. Two people or more ordering the same thing makes no sense to me. It doesn't look right to have a table with dinner X repeated over and over again, especially when you consider the N many meals you could choose from. So to prevent this I make a mental note of a first, second and third choice off a menu. I also try to order first, because if someone orders my dish afterwards it's out of my control.

If given a hard candy to enjoy, I cannot stop myself from crunching it between my back teeth. Breath mints, lollypops, jawbreakers, candy canes, all fall to the relentless grind of my molars. I honestly try to just let them melt in my mouth but it never lasts. This is one of the reasons I had to stop buying Gobstoppers. Back in my hay day I could crack one of these badboys in half in under a minute. After going through a whole box my mouth would feel like it had just been hit by Mike Tyson.

Most people peel their bananas by breaking the peel by bending the "stem" back. I work the other way, using my teeth to bite off the "tip" and then peeling the rind back towards the stem. It is something I picked up after watching Looney Toons all these years. Whenever you see a one in a cartoon you'll always see it with the stem pointing upwards with the rest of the peel spreading out from it. You know I'm right. Bugs Bunny proves that I'm right.

Would anyone else like to share their little quirks?

New Years Resolutions 2005

This year my resolutions are two fold. The first is to live a healthier life; The second to take a more active role in my love life.

In the past few years I've been making changes to my diet. I have stopped drinking soda pop, cut down on the sweets as much as possible, reduced my caffeine intake to practically nothing. For dinner I try to avoid pasta and rice, opting for a salad or vegetables instead. little changes like that have helped me loose some pounds but more importantly keep it off.

But that's about as much as I've done to improve my health. Most of my exercise consists of walking about the city during my commute and at lunch. That is simply not enough if you want to improve your cardiovascular system and burn off some fat. So this year I am going to get more active. Even if it means just playing DDR every day for half an hour I have to get my heart rate up each day.

When it comes to my love life, 2004 was more active then usual. I had my ups and my downs but now I'm starting the new year with a clean slate. Prior to that I've been fortunate enough to sort of fall into relationships as I went along. I have never had to chase a girl, or really fight to get something going like other people have. Romance would always seem to find me at the exact moment I wasn't looking for it at all.

I realize that taking this passive stance just won't cut it. Waiting for something to happen is so 2004. It is time to get active, to get out there and meet those fish in the sea. Will I find romance? Will I get turned down? Will I make new friends instead of romantic interests? Probably a little bit of all the above. It is better that something happens instead of nothing at all.

Kris was right when she said "2005 is all about comin' up!" Time for me to get proactive in more ways then one. Do it!

We Remember

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day in Canada. I feel one of the best ways to honour our veterans and their fallen brothers and sisters is to learn. Everyone should at least take the time out to crack open a history book and look up what we should be Remembering tomorrow.

In that spirit, here are a few links to help you remember. A lot of sacrifices were made by thousands of brave Canadians during those wars. The least you can do is sacrifice a bit of time to learn about it.

Turn this off.

I'm sick. Sick of sitting in front of this computer day in and day out.

I go to work and stare into a monitor. I take a lunch break and compose correspondence with a keyboard. I head home and use a mouse to manipulate HTML. Day in and day out I was plugged into the Internet and I just couldn't take it anymore.

After this experience I reverted back into my old routine of TV and Computers to easily. Now I find that I want to get away from it again, like I'm missing out on something while I'm sitting in this chair. I don't want to give it up completely, but I am in some need of moderation and restraint.

Excuse me while I "unplug" for awhile.

Post Vacation Validation

kandj.GIFThanks for the vacation Kris, it was super spectacular! About the only thing wrong with you visit was that it had to end. That could be said about any holiday but in all honesty it is the truth.

There are stories to tell and pictures to see, but that will have to wait for another time. Right now I'm just trying to remember how to get back into the normal swing of things. How did I ever carry my cell phone around without Kris's boom box purse?!

.... It's always better on holidays.

Television Runaway

I firmly believe that limitation is the taskmaster of innovation. It may not be the best way to get your creative juices flowing, but constraint will always place hot coals under the feet of your muses. An academic career full of all-nighters to finish last minute projects is enough evidence for me.

That is why I am really enjoying TV Turn-Off Week. Not only have I decided not to watch TV for seven days I have also decided to stay away from the computer when I'm off work! Giving up the boob tube just to sit in front of my PC all day is not what they had in mind.

Only two days into it and I have already found myself doing things outside my ordinary routine. I've taken short walks through my neighbourhood and hit the trails with my mountain bike. I'm reading books, listening to music, sketching still life into a neglected scrapbook. My guitar hasn't see this much play since I decided to sing a song for my last girlfriend.

... why are these things not apart of my ordinary routine? There is something very wrong with me when a limitation is the only motivation I can find to do something creative and meaningful.

Plans in Point Form

Incase you are not in the know, my left half is going to be paying a visit to the fair city of Toronto in four weeks. I will have a week to show her what a good time in Hogtown is like, and I'm hoping a good time will include some of the following:

And that's just off the top of my head ... but can anyone else think of some things to do while in the T-Dot?

Archives and Answers

Well there's some good news and some bad news. The good news is that all of Kristine's archives are back in play. The bad news is that restoring the archives of this little weblog will not be that easy. Don't expect them to show up for quite some time.

As for some answers, here you go:

  1. 10 and 3/4
  2. I don't have one. Honest.
  3. Oh I'm not sure about that one, I'd have to look it up in the Baby Book
  4. Off the top of my head: my Parents.
  5. I understand it, but I would have trouble replying in Tagalog if I were in a conversation.
  6. Yes I do, even on my worst days.
  7. A toss up between "on my back" and "curled up on my side"
  8. My last dream ... I believe it had something to do with being back in high school only my classmates consisted of old friends and colourful aliens. The details are sketchy ...
  9. I was a contestant on the YTV game show "Video and Arcade Top 10". I played a video game against 3 other kids and came out on top. I won a NES game, a joystick, a watch and a T-shirt that changed colour in heat.
  10. This kid named Leon back in pre-school. He stole my girlfriend back then and I've never forgiven him! Grrr ...

Your turn Kris.
