No scary soul-stealing ghosts in this movie

While Noods continues to gush about The Seven Swords, allow me to gush over another movie related to the number seven. I'm talking about the DVD movie sequel to Final Fantasy VII, entitled Final Fantasy: Advent Children.

This is the movie every single FF fan was waiting for, the movie that should have been made instead of Spirits Within. All your favourite characters, in your favourite locations, defying gravity and physics with their special attacks. Cool poses, nifty weapons, crazy monsters rampaging through the country side. It had it all and more then you could ask for.

Okay ... maybe a better story line, but in light of all that fanboy service, everything is forgiven.

If you've never played the game before, don't bother with the movie. You won't understand what's going on, let alone who all these characters are. Do yourself a favour and play the game at least to the 2nd CD. Once you're hooked and play the rest of the game through, then you can watch this movie and giggle with glee like the rest of us.

Don't Fear the Reaper

I can no longer take a song seriously if it has a cowbell as part of its percussion set. The sound invokes the image of Will Farrell in a tight plaid shirt giving it all he's got. It has completely ruined any chance there is of me listening to the latest Queens of the Stone Age single without breaking out into laughter.

I've got a fever...and the only prescription...is an old SNL skit!

The How Do You Say? Ah Yes, Post

Go to the Multimedia page of this Lucy Lawless fansite. Scroll down the page about half way and watch the Saturday Night Live Sexy : October 17 1998 video clip. You'll need RealPlayer to view it.

It is hot in here, yes?

Can't blog. Watching.

Pardon me.

I purchased seasons 3 and 4 of Buffy for a steal. I have a lot of slayer and witch oogling to do.

Yes I know season 7 just came out, but all in due time.

Errr, argh!

Blame it on the rain

I may be the last one to blog about this but it looks like Ashlee Simpson got some 'splaining ta do. During her second performance on Saturday Night Live, the band started to play the song "Autobiography" but her voice could be heard singing "Pieces of Me" instead.

She was holding her microphone at her waist at the time. Simpson looked momentarily confused as the band plowed ahead with the song and the vocal was quickly silenced.

A flustered Simpson made some exaggerated hopping dance moves, then walked off the stage.

If you missed the poor girl's breakdown you can watch it here. Ahh schadenfreude, the cornerstone of a blogger's repertoire.

CSI:WHO

While she was here I introduced Kristine to the wonder that is CSI. The original Las Vegas one of course; Miami registers only lukewarm on my scale and we didn't run across an episode of NY just yet. For some crazy reason it was always on when we had nothing else to do but watch TV. After a few brief episodes (in which insects were featured as forensic aids) she was hooked.

Thanks to the CSI family of shows, whenever I hear The Who I think "It's crime fighting time!"

Police shot and killed a

Police shot and killed a man Wednesday morning as he held a woman at gunpoint in front of Union Station during the height of the morning rush hour. [MORE]

If I were working my normal shift today my commuter train would have arrived at Union Station just in time for me to witness that. I could have been there. I could have been the hostage. I could have a legitimate reason for being overly dramatic in this post.

Wow.

Don't you want me baby?

You can listen to my LAUNCHcast radio station here. I'm still tweaking it here and there so don't be surprised if a few songs sneak by that seem out of place.

And no I'm not talking about the Rachel Stevens tracks. Those actually belong there.

Musical Interlude

Seeing as Kris is in a sharing mood today, I thought I'd share something with you as well. Here's the latest mix CD I whipped up. It is really just a collection of the latest singles from the current collection of hot bands. Still it serves as a welcomed alternative to the relentless station surfing I do on the car radio.

The mix is called "The 'Mostly The' Singles"

  1. "Somebody Told Me" - The Killers: a song that combines great music with a silly/stupid chorus in a beautiful way.
  2. "Float On" - Modest Mouse: catchy catchy catchy
  3. "Still In Love Song" - The Stills: I'm afraid this band is treading that dangerous "one hit wonder" path. It's a shame because I like the album
  4. "Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinan: how can you not like this song? Not my favourite off the album but still a solid hit.
  5. "Cold Hard Bitch" - Jet: their other song that didn't make it to the I-Pod commercial
  6. "Ride With Me" - The Vines: the song that did make it to the I-Pod commercial
  7. "End Of The Word" - The Cure: Hey it's The Cure. You can't go wrong with The Cure.
  8. "Time is Running Out" - Muse: It sounds like a higher pitched "Lost in the Plot" by the Dears
  9. "Fit But You Know It" - The Streets: Sounds like a Saturday Night Live skit but still a catchy hit.
  10. "Walk Idiot Walk" - The Hives: Just another catchy tune. I would consider going to their show but I think I'm going to another one that night.
  11. "Combat Baby" - Metric: I'm always a sucker for Metric. Okay maybe I'm a sucker for Emily Haines ...

See? Nothing special. Deeply rooted in "mainstream" but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sometimes these posts just write themselves

Chad Kruger and Kid Rock did a cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)". I kid you not. It was on the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle soundtrack. How I let that Gem sneak by me for so long I'll never know.

Just let that juxtaposition soak into your head for a bit.

Man cannot live off of paypal paid purchases alone!

Online cartoons have the best merchandise. Take the 1337 hoodie over at little gamers. My willpower alone is keeping me from whipping out a credit card and buying it right now.

I won't even get into the several shirts at Diesel Sweeties. Take a look at both pages there and I guarantee you'll pick out one to call your very own.

What brought on this sudden influx of webcomic products? Spotting good old Andrew sporting a Strong Bad T-shirt in the latest Angel episode. Watch out! Before you know it you'll be seeing 3vil l33t shirts on the OC.

Sherwood Praise

Can we all agree that Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is one of the best movies of all time? It was one of the greatest movies of the early 90's. It is certainly the best rendition of the Robin Hood story on film, including Rocket Robin Hood from back in the day!

Fishing for Hatemail

If I told all you cat lovers out there not click on this link I know you're not going to listen to me. So don't blame me when you do click on said link and ... well you'll see.

... or hopefully won't see.

Sadly my first reaction was to laugh but the more time I had to dwell on it, the more the contents of this link disturbed me. Thankfully most of my questions were answered at Snopes. A great site for clearing things up in general.

Don't click on this link! You've been warned.

Update: I've taken down the video at the end of said link because it is rather disturbing, especially for cat lovers like my left side over there. If you are really interested in what all the hub-bub is all about you can find the video off the Snopes.com ... but don't say I didn't warn you.

TV-Turnoff Week

What happens during a seven-day experiment in life without TV? A whole new space to think emerges. You find yourself passing time in ways you never expected. And you start to wonder: when I reach for the remote, who is really in control?

Could I survive a week without television? My boob box schedule during the week is pretty slim, but missing out on Saturday morning cartoons? That might hurt.

Still there are times where the television becomes my crutch; A quick way to get that "entertainment" fix without having to work for it. So what if I could not fall back on it ... or my computer for that matter?

I have a sketchbook that has been horribly neglected these past few years. A guitar mopes in the corner of my room, lonely and dejected. There's also a bike in my garage just waiting to hit those back trails around my house.

The more I think about it, the more it sounds like a good idea. One week: no television; no DVDs; no Game Cubes, Game Boys or PCs.

I think I can do it.
