Make the Yule-tide gay

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas. I hope Pere Noel was good to you this year.

I also realize that our gallery is MIA at the moment. I am working on getting that up and running. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Update: Uhh, it looks like the gallery came back all by itself. It's a Festivus miracle!

Productivity is up

When you write as many reports as I do sometimes your mind wanders off the mark. Other times your thoughts are completely hijacked by a streak of insanity and you something kooky like:

After reload the page would not display. Cleared cache, cookies. Checked all advanced browser settings. Checked the OR, I liked it so far.

Of course I took that line out of my final draft. Okay, so I only caught it during my last proof-read. What can I say? The influence of bad Canadian hip-hop artists is a strange and mysterious thing. Anyone remember Kish?

Search your feelings. You know it to be true!

I swore I would not buy anything for myself untill after all my christmas shopping was done. Okay so I bought MC Groovz danceCraze for myself, but that's it! Nothing else till after the 25th.

Then I saw this. Dang. Must not give in to the dark side ...

Supersize Her

My oh my. The give boobs girl actually raised enough money for a breast enlargement procedure. Kudos to her for sticking to her guns,

... pun intended.

The equivalent of bling-bling for your PC

I know a couple of people who would enjoy this little gizmo in their computer:

xray.gif

The Thermaltake XRay drive bay. Most PCs have an extra 5.25" bay on them, why not fill it up with something useful like a cigarette lighter and ashtray? For the non smoker you could use the lighter to power up those car acessories and the ashtray as a handy-dandy cup holder. No more resting your soda pop on the open CD ROM tray for you!

The Formula

Whenever I bring The Formula up, there are always a few people suprised by it. I thought it was common knowledge, but if it isn't let me be the first to introduce you to this important social tool.

When it comes to deciding if a potential date is too young or old for you, there is no better way. The mathematics behind The Formula are quite simple: Your age, divided by two, plus seven, rounded up.

Younger date's age = round [( Your Age / 2 ) + 7 ]

For example, the youngest I could date would be 20; anything younger and I'm just a creepy old man hitting on co-eds. All systems go for Michelle Branch, but Lindsey Lohan is a no-no.

The Formula also works in reverse, dictating the oldest your pontetial date can be. In that case it would be your age minus seven, times two.

Older date's age = (Your age - 7) * 2

Again my upper limit is 36 and Lisa Loeb just makes it in (thank gawd!).

And now you know. Keep it, learn it, live it, love it.

Song of the Day - "Filthy/Gorgeous" by Sicssor Sister

Seventies funk guitar, male lead singing with a high pitched squeal, disco walking bass line, one fantastic driving song. When it comes on the radio I can't help but turn it up and sing along ... yes with the same high pitched squeal. Think Anita Ward's "Ring my Bell" only funkier if that is possible. No, I think it is more of the former being a song for it's time and the latter trying to hit you over the head with that era as blatantly as possible.

I'm not complaining.

How do you know when you're a blogger?

It is 1:30 AM on a Saturday morning. The night is cold, wet and all together uncomfortable. You are standing in the parking lot of a gas station helping your friend change a tire he blew out on a bad curve. There is grease on your hands and the bloody wheel lock won't come off.

It was around that time when a single stupid though popped into my head. "Wow, I have something to post in my blog now." Hardcore geek my friends, hardcore.

Use it to send me cool music!

Dropload.com is something that I thought of years ago but could never work out all the little details to truly implement. Yes yes it sounds like I'm shooting the poop here but I swear it's true, scout's honour. I'll let them explain:

Dropload is a place for you to drop your files off and have them picked up by someone else at a later time. Recipients you specify are sent an email with instructions on how to download the file. Files are removed from the system after 7 days, regardless if they have been picked up or not. You can upload any type of file, mp3, movies, docs, pdfs, up to 100MB each! Recipients can be anyone with an email address

Perfect for passing MP3s, movie clips and that 100 page thesis complete with pie table appendices. Next time I'll tell you about how I thought of creating the Internets well before Al Gore invented them.

The GTA Blogger Holiday Party!

Friday was the GTA Bloggers christmas party. As usual it was a great time, even more so because of the wack of new people who showed up. I tried to mingle and introduce myself, but instead found me mostly conversing with people I knew. I think we all tend to do that, but it is still no excuse.

Speaking of new people I managed to convice some of my engineering friends to attend the party as well. Jenn, Liz and Karim all managed to show up and enjoy themselves silly. It is good to see bloggers and engineers mingling together. Segregated groups of friends is just so 2003.

You can take a look at some photos from the event here. There are also at least a dozen or so personal summaries of the party scattered through out the GTA Bloggers list. ... it's a blogging thing. You understand.

Hello Moto

My new shinny gadget toy came in the mail today. I am the proud new owner of a fancy pants Motorola V551 cellular phone. Colour screen, video / photo capabilities, bluetooth ready, MP3 ring tones, all in a sleek and sexy little package. I'm as giddy as I was when I was given Starscream for my 6th birthday.

You know, boys with their toys and all.

But what to do with my trusty Samsung? It has been with me through thick and thin these past 2 years, it would be a shame to just leave it on a shelf to gather dust.

So I'm going to donate it to charity. I have seen a few drop off boxes here are there through out the business district downtown. There are also some web sites to check out:

I've even got the old box for my Samsung. And a certain girl scoffed at me holding on to so many boxes. Phhbt!

G turns to D

Tibbar, Tibbar! The bain of my existence right now is re-learning how to hold a bar chord. Okay, maybe I am getting ahead of myself. When I used to play frequently I could never hold one properly. Trying to keep up with chord changes now feels like I'm playing with an oven mitt on my left hand.

And it sounds something like that as well. Oy.

For my reference (and yours) here are some articles I should follow up on:

In related news my calluses are building up quite nicely. Yum!
