The kindness of train passengers
One big thank you goes out to the nice lady who woke me up on the train this morning. If it wasn't for here I would have missed my stop at Union Station and would be on my way back up north to Georgetown. Instead it is 6:53 AM and I am sitting at my desk getting some work done.
On second though ... maybe I shouldn't be thanking her.

But tonight I'm cleaning out my closet
These are a few of the things I pulled out of my closet while I was cleaning it out.
- One stuffed Spiderman toy with plastic spider web. A Secret Santa gift from the 2nd GTAB Christmas Party
- Four Star Wars action figures: Jedi Luke, Han Solo, Chewie and Darth Vadar, all still inside their original packaging. These were give always when the original Trilogy was re-released in theaters.
- One yellow hard hat, covered in purple spots. Worn my sophomore year as I helped "welcome" the freshman to Engineering. Good for one free beer at any Arts & Science pub on campus.
- One two-piece Darth Vadar mask from my Halloween costume back in high school, senior year.
- One bird puppet made of faux feathers and wires. Purchased on my last trip to the Philippines years ago.
- One deer antler, left side. Picked up at my Uncle's cottage the summer of '91.
- Two toy dogs, the first one was a Christmas gift when I was 4 or 5. When its leg broke I was given another one for my next birthday.
Man I've collected a lot of stuff over the years. Some call it clutter but I like to think of it as little reminders of times we might have forgotten. Still it's best to get rid of the clutter and keep only the important things .... like all of the above.
At this rate I'll never clean out that closet.

Didn't anyone tell you? Sweat marks are in fashion.
I went to the Emily Haines & Amy Millian show last night at the El Mocambo yesterday. Giving you a little review of the event would be redundant considering Frank and Graig have already posted their own, with pictures no less. I will however tell you that I was more inline with Graig's view then Frank's, pleasantly surprised with the change in Emily's style and tempo for the night.
What I would like to talk about how uncomfortable hot the El was that night. Now I am a chubby fellow, there's no denying that. With this extra girth comes the unfortunate curse of having overly active eccrine glands with a penchant for reacting at the slightest fluxuation of climate or temperature. In shot I tend to sweat a lot and it is bloody annoying.
Now I knew we'd be going to a show that night and a show = crowds = one hot room. So I prepared for this, wearing a tank top and a very light button up shirt on top. The rest was left to how good the air system would be at the show and how cool the night would be.
And the night did co-operate, keeping a slight and comfortable chill in the air. The El Mocambo however does not belive in air conditioning, air circulation ... or air ventilation for that matter. The heat of all those people in the room and of the stage lights just hung in the air like lead weights. The brunt of it was of course near the stage far away from the open windows in the back of the club.
And I knew what this heat would do to me. I could feel the perspiration beading down my neck, my back, my face. During each song that night I could probably tell you in agonizing detail how each drop travelled along my skin. The most embarassing were the drops that visibly fell away from strands of hair. It was a war I was losing against my body and my only defense was an already battle worn handkerchief.
I hate it. I hate myself for it. Every time I go out to a social event, my own sweat is always something I have to consider and in the end something I'll have to deal with that night. I hate the looks of disgust I get from the matchstick thin men. I hate how girls move away from me with obvious reason to their actions. I hate having to worry about soaking wet t-shirts and how they look outside the dark club lights.
You can't stop yourself from sweating, but why do I have to sweat so much? Do I buy into the "hyperhidrosis" explanation? I really don't want to start taking some kind of medication just to control my perspiration, but sometimes I feel like I have no other choice. I'm losing weight but it doesn't seem to be making a difference at all.
At least I'm not sweating right now ... but give it time.

Calling Mr. Vain
Inspired by Graig-bob Squarepant's purge sermon I've decided to trim down my CD collection a bit. Of course the first albums to go are the ones you don't listen to anymore. Those CD's you look at, scratch you head, wonder why the heck did buy this one? Others you've just grow out of and haven't been touched in well over 2-3 years.
I'm going to list them here in hopes that one of you kind souls would like to snatch them up from me. Each one is going for a reasonable price of $2 Canadian / $1.50 US + shipping & handling fees. No service charge if I can deliver the CD to you in person.
Leave a comment or e-mail me at jeremiahnewbie@tripledoubleyou.com (trying to hide that address from spambots is pointless) if you're interested in a CD. They're all first come first serve and if a CD hasn't been sold within 2 weeks I'm going to just dump them at the local used CD shop ... hopefully ...
Now in no particular order ...
- "Feeling Strangely Fine" - Semisonic
- "Frosh Two" - Various Artists
- "South Park: Chef Aid" - Various Artist
- "Another Night" - Real MCoy
- "Much @ Edgefest '99" - Various Artists
"Jagged Little Pill" - Alanis Morissette- "Spirit" - Jewel
- "Thowing Copper" - Live
- "Brand New History" - Econoline Crush
- "The Devil You Know" - Econoline Crush
- "Dumb and Dumber OMPS" - Various Artists
- "Sheryl Crow" - Sheryl Crow
- "Tuesday Night Music Club" - Sheryl Crow
"To The Faithful Departed" - The Cranberries"No Need To Argue" - The Cranberries- "Relish" - Joan Osborne
- "Chasing The Dragon" - Smoother
- "Lucy Pearl" - Lucy Pearl
- "Sixteen Stones" - Bush(x)
- "Disco Fever" - Countdown Mix Masters (disco hits sung by a no-namers)
- "Batman Forever OMPS" - Various Artists
- "Bass is Base" - Bass is Base
- "Big Shiny Tunes 3" - Various Artists
- "Big Shiny Tunes 2" - Various Artists
- "Frosh" - Various Artists
- "Zoot Suit Riot" - Cherry Poppin' Daddies
- "Awesome Summer 2" - Various Artists
- "God Shuffled His Feet" - Crash Test Dummies
- "Get A Grip" - Aerosmith (Don't kill me Irma!)
- "Bringing Down The Horse" - The Wallflowers
- "HMV Hard Core" - Various Artists (It's a single so it's only $1 CDN)
It is a glorious testimony of my taste in music over the years. Bask in its awkward, somewhat disturbing eclectic nature.

For better or for worse ...
In Ontario Same-Sex marriages are legal. Hooray for progress! But before you walk down that aisle you better be sure about it. I mean really sure about it.
Why? Well lets say things fall apart and the two of you want to separate. There is just one tiny little problem with that: Same-Sex divorces are still illegal. D'oh!

Don't you want me baby?
You can listen to my LAUNCHcast radio station here. I'm still tweaking it here and there so don't be surprised if a few songs sneak by that seem out of place.
And no I'm not talking about the Rachel Stevens tracks. Those actually belong there.

The Link
It is not TripleDoubleYou or tripledoubleyou. Triple Double You or any "space friendly" iteration of it is out of the question.
Tripledoubleyou doesn't work, and neither does tripledoubleU. 3x2xU is cute, but I doubt anyone would understand it anyway.
The .com is important.
tripledoubleyou.com is golden. TripleDoubleYou.com works as well. www.com is also acceptable since that is what we were going for.
But 3x2xU.com is still a big no-no.
Aside: this is just me being anal about how to link this site. It was supposed to be humorous but I think it came out a bit too hostile then I meant it to be. Please disregard it since I should be thanking you for linking me in the first place.

A,K,A, What almost made me late for work
The game of choice on my PC lately would be Far Cry. The game play in this first-person shooter boasts a very intelligent AI that adapts to your game style. If you want to sneak around the jungle picking off the bad guys one by one you can. If running into the enemy camp with guns blazing is more your forte the game will let you do that as well.
The ambiance of the game is also quite engrossing. The graphics are all quite life like and very vivid. On this island paradise you'll see crystal clear water washing up on a white sand beach. The jungles are dense with undergrowth, each bush and each leaf individually rendered making it so lifelike. In there lies the inherent problem with the game: to get it to look spectacular you better have a top of the line PC. This is the only game I have so far that pushes my Radeon 9800 Pro to the limit, but it is well worth it.
So if you have computer specs to support it, I would highly recommend picking up a copy of Far Cry today. If anything just try the demo or watch the trailer. The geeky gamer in you will thank me.

I'm all in!
Burned twice in a row. That's the last time I trust the "Herbal Tea" menu at Tea Shop 168. I always thought
But according to the concoction the cute waitresses served me earlier tonight, I was wrong. This man stands before you more wired then a Robot. At around 3:00 in the morning this is not a good thing.
Hmm. It's 3:00 AM, I must be lonely.
Now when I start to quote Matchbox 20 songs you know something must be wrong.

Musical Interlude
Seeing as Kris is in a sharing mood today, I thought I'd share something with you as well. Here's the latest mix CD I whipped up. It is really just a collection of the latest singles from the current collection of hot bands. Still it serves as a welcomed alternative to the relentless station surfing I do on the car radio.
The mix is called "The 'Mostly The' Singles"
- "Somebody Told Me" - The Killers: a song that combines great music with a silly/stupid chorus in a beautiful way.
- "Float On" - Modest Mouse: catchy catchy catchy
- "Still In Love Song" - The Stills: I'm afraid this band is treading that dangerous "one hit wonder" path. It's a shame because I like the album
- "Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinan: how can you not like this song? Not my favourite off the album but still a solid hit.
- "Cold Hard Bitch" - Jet: their other song that didn't make it to the I-Pod commercial
- "Ride With Me" - The Vines: the song that did make it to the I-Pod commercial
- "End Of The Word" - The Cure: Hey it's The Cure. You can't go wrong with The Cure.
- "Time is Running Out" - Muse: It sounds like a higher pitched "Lost in the Plot" by the Dears
- "Fit But You Know It" - The Streets: Sounds like a Saturday Night Live skit but still a catchy hit.
- "Walk Idiot Walk" - The Hives: Just another catchy tune. I would consider going to their show but I think I'm going to another one that night.
- "Combat Baby" - Metric: I'm always a sucker for Metric. Okay maybe I'm a sucker for Emily Haines ...
See? Nothing special. Deeply rooted in "mainstream" but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Shut up!
Someone hit the mute button on my remote control.
Over the weekend I was hit with a nasty throat bug. Spending Saturday afternoon soaking wet beside a pool didn't help. By Sunday my throat was throbbing and I had lost my voice completely. The doctor confirmed I was down with the sickness, and the sickness was laryngitis. Super!
Today was a little better. If I forced it, I could make this sort of low bullfrog croaking sound that people could understand. For the most part I stuck to whispers and hand gestures for the majority of my communication needs.
I contemplated wearing a white board on my neck a'la that episode from Buffy. But ... I don't want to tempt fate and do anything that may invite The Gentlemen to my doorstep. Yikes.
That is still the creepiest episode of the entire series by far. It gives me the heebie-geebies.

These are the people on your commuter route
Sally likes to relax when she's on the train. She sits back in her chair, leans her head against the window and rests her feet on the seat in front of her. Her stinky, wrinkled, ugly, liver spot ridden bare feet. They're presence keeps away those other pesky commuters who dare try to find a seat in a crowded train. Don't they know Sally needs her space to relax?
John is a very important man. He lives an important life, has an important job, and only has time for important things. When he gets off the commuter train he makes a be line for the exit. It is important he get to whatever important meeting he has to get to. He will march directly for the doors but then stop, nearly causing the people behind him to crash into his back. John presses the button to open the automatic doors meant to assist the physically disabled. He stands there and waits as the door slowly opens. The crowed to his back is forced wait as well. John is too important to open doors manually.
Alex is a movie buff. During that downtime on the train he watches his films on his trusty laptop. The big LED screen brings the pictures to life with vivid colour. The speakers on his PC aren't the greatest, but the still manage to put out enough sound to keep the other people sitting beside him awake. You have to understand, he needs to hear what's going on to follow the plot. Headphones are just out of the question. They will just mess up his beautiful flowing hair.

Sometimes these posts just write themselves
Chad Kruger and Kid Rock did a cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)". I kid you not. It was on the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle soundtrack. How I let that Gem sneak by me for so long I'll never know.
Just let that juxtaposition soak into your head for a bit.

Check out the blocks on that Slayer
When Be@rbricks started popping up in and around town I didn't give them much though. Sure some of them were neat (aka Tron BeArbrick) but I passed the whole thing off as a trendy hipster version of the Pokemon toys they had a Burger King a few years back.
That is untill I saw these babies:

Can you say Buffy Palz Block Figures? Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, Darla and The Master all from the first season! Act now and you may get your hands on a limited edition Vampire face Darla! I've gotta catch'em all!
